The ABBA BR standard linear guide employs steel balls as rolling elements between the rail and block, utilizing the minute clearance in the contact between the block, balls, and rail to confine the block onto the rail. This enables the load platform to achieve high-speed, high-precision linear motion along the rail. Let us now assist in selecting the most suitable BR linear guide for your equipment

When selecting a linear guide, each step is crucial to ensuring optimal performance and efficiency. Starting from application condition and installation layout, the process gradually involves: 1) Preload, 2) Accuracy selection, and calculating the block's load. Subsequently, considering  3) the block type, using the formulas provided in the catalog to determine if the static safety factor is enough. If it's not enough, evaluating whether selecting different sizes or block configurations is necessary. Finally, assessing if the basic rating life meets application demands. The last step is complementing the selection with required 4) accessories, one can successfully identify the most suitable model through this comprehensive consideration process.

1) Preload

When a linear guide bears a load, elastic deformation occurs within permissible load limits for components like steel balls, blocks, or rails. The ratio of the load to the amount of deformation at this point is referred to as rigidity. To enhance rigidity, eliminate clearance, and reduce deformation, linear guides can be preloaded. The preload is determined by the diameter of the steel balls and increases accordingly with the ball diameter. Currently, the ABBA BR series offers three preload levels for customers to choose from.

Z1 (Light preload) : High precision required for light load applications.

Z2 (Medium preload) : Situations demanding high rigidity with vibration and impact.

Z3 (Heavy preload) : Highest rigidity requirements, extreme impact resistance

2) Accuracy selection

The accuracy of linear guides can be categorized into three types: Running parallelism, Tolerance of height/width in assembly, and Difference of height/width. Customers can choose based on the precision requirements of their equipment. Machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, EDM machines, or probe equipment in the semiconductor industry often require precision-grade (P) specifications. Other industrial applications like robotics, injection molding machines, and painting machines may opt for normal-grade (N) or high-grade (H) specifications. It's advisable to select the most suitable accuracy level to maximize equipment productivity.

 

3) Block type

The selection of block types can be based on application space or installation orientation and can be categorized into the following five types:

Flanged type :The installation orientation is flexible, allowing for locking from top to bottom or from bottom to top

Slim-line type:It is narrower than the flange type , suitable for situations with width limitations

Low-profile assembly: Lower in height, suitable for applications with limited space

Short type: Suitable for situations with length restrictions

Extended type: Rated load capacity is higher than the standard type

 

4) Accessories

When selecting accessories for BR linear guides, careful consideration should be given to various environmental requirements. These accessories not only prevent external contaminants from entering the interior of the block but also reduce resistance and adapt to environments with high levels of contaminants or metal chips.

Standard front seal:Contact-type components serve the purpose of preventing external contaminants from infiltrating the interior of the block and are suitable for typical working environments.

Low friction shield:Non-contact components are suitable for environments requiring low operational resistance and free from external contaminants, such as clean rooms.

Scraper plate:Non-contact components prevent excessive contamination or damage to dust covers from large debris or hot metal chips. They are suitable for environments with higher levels of contamination or metal chips, such as milling machines.

U type metal frame + side seals:Suitable for environments where dust may potentially infiltrate from below the block.

Beyond standard specifications, an additional option is the self-lubricating system, which can extend lubrication cycles through high oil-retaining blocks and an optimized oil film formation design, thanks to its high oil content. This system allows for prolonged lubrication intervals
